#6 DZP: A Streetcar Named Desire

Set in the French Quarter of New Orleans during the restless years following World War Two, A Streetcar Named Desire is the story of Blanche DuBois, a fragile and neurotic woman on a desperate prowl for someplace in the world to call her own. After being exiled from her hometown of Laurel, Mississippi, for seducing a seventeen-year-old boy at the school where she taught English, Blanche explains her unexpected appearance on Stanley and Stella's (Blanche's sister) doorstep as nervous exhaustion. This, she claims, is the result of a series of financial calamities which have recently claimed the family plantation, Belle Reve. Suspicious, Stanley points out that "under Louisiana's Napoleonic code what belongs to the wife belongs to the husband." Stanley, a sinewy and brutish man, is as territorial as a panther. He tells Blanche he doesn't like to be swindled and demands to see the bill of sale. This encounter defines Stanley and Blanche's relationship. They are opposing camps and Stella is caught in no-man's-land. But Stanley and Stella are deeply in love. Blanche's efforts to impose herself between them only enrages the animal inside Stanley. When Mitch -- a card-playing buddy of Stanley's -- arrives on the scene, Blanche begins to see a way out of her predicament. Mitch, himself alone in the world, reveres Blanche as a beautiful and refined woman. Yet, as rumors of Blanche's past in Auriol begin to catch up to her, her circumstances become unbearable. Thank you Mark Fleetwood

Now I only watched it for the Marlon Brando scream of "Sssttteeeeellllllaaaaaa!", and of course for the shirtless scene, but other than that, the movie couldn't really hold my attention. Blanche freaked me out, and I would never marry a man like Stanley. But tell me that sexy look doesn't make you blame Stella for jumping in bed with her Stanley in the first place...

"Are You There, Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea" by Chelsea Handler

So the 2nd of Chelsea Handler books I've read, and I have to say... I can't get enough of her! She is unbelievably funny! I can't stress that enough! If you're at all human... and can appreciate comedy, then you'll be in bed reading and crackin' yourself up or at the airport giggling in front of strangers!

The last chapter, Chapter 12: Costa Rica was by far my favorite, and she's got a lot of stories that push the top of favorites too! About her trip with her friend Shoniqua, Shoniqua's mother Latifa, and Chelsea's father Melvin, whom she calls "Bitch Tits".
"My father has about as much shame as Star Jones and, being the Jew that he is, loves to get something for nothing. Me negotiating skills are on par with George Bush's reading ability. And, just like Dubya, every time I've tried to put forth an effort, I am reminded that my only true strength lies in drinking." - Chelsea Handler "Are You There, Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea"
Not to spoil anymore details about it, but I love her books!

"Most men would never tell a girl her Pikachu smells like a crab cake. It's just not done. But they would have no qualms about telling their guy friends. Similarly, if you're a guy and you pull your pants down, and the girl you're with immediately stats text messaging her friends, you have a small penis." - Chelsea Handler "Are You There, Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea"

On to the next one: "Chelsea Chelsea, Bang Bang"

Oh! and yeah for finishing book 2/50 on the DZP!

#98 DZP - the Blind Side

#98: Watch 26 movies I've never seen starting with each letter of the Alphabet
Now I got my "B" done! I finally watched The Blind Side!

Based on the true story of Leigh Anne and Sean Tuohy who take in a homeless teenage African-American, Michael "Big Mike" Oher. Michael has no idea who is father is and his mother is a crack head. Michael has had little formal education and few skills to help him learn. Leigh Anne soon takes charge however, as is her nature, ensuring that the young man has every opportunity to succeed. When he expresses an interest in football, she goes all out to help him, including giving the coach a few ideas on how best to use Michael's skills. They not only provide him with a loving home, but hire a tutor to help him improve his grades to the point where he would qualify for an NCAA Division I athletic scholarship. Michael Oher was the first-round pick of the Baltimore Ravens in the 2009 NFL draft.

I can't tell you how much I love this movie! Sandra Bullock deserved all those awards for her performance. You really feel for Mike Oher and the troubles he's been through. And you also feel great inside for the fortune and luck that came from the Tuohys. Now of course the favorite characters are Leigh Anne (Sandra Bullock) and Michael Oher (Quinton Aaron), but I also loved Sean "SJ" Jr. (Jae Head). That little boy was hillarious and loved his "Brother" Michael from the moment he met him. This warm-hearted movie made me cry happy tears!

Halloween? Or Saint Patty's Day?

Why not BOTH!?!?

Okay, so I have till Halloween (Oct 31st) to look like THAT! No joke kids!

I bought this little outfit for my first complete-skank Halloween outfit! I got it from 3 wishes, but Leg Avenue's design. It's a 4-piece set that comes with white crop top, suspender shorts with embroidered clover applique and pocket chain, belt, and stockings. I even got the hair accessories for it too!

So we need to hit the gym more, and work on the abs & legs. More planks, squats, and cardio!

I have to eat better too. I can't commit to a "diet", but I sure can at least eat a Lean Cuisine meal, rather than the taco tuesday specials for lunch!

But support would be awesome right now... and future support as well! I have a less than 4 months for this, and I want to make it happen! Hell my name is Shannon! I have to be an Irish Cutie!!!

Leg Avenue's Irish Cutie

Taking Back My Life

Dear Shannon,

I think that it's time for us to sit down and go over your life.

You have to realize that you are better than you give yourself credit for, and you need to learn how to lead, not follow. We can't keep falling down and having the hardest time getting back up. So you scrape your knees here and there, it will all heal. You have lots of people to help you up too. They might not say it, but you know who truly loves you and cares for you.

I also think it's time for us to start loving each other... like we did when we were younger. We haven't always liked each other in the past, and damn there hated and hurt each other, but I believe now is a good time to move on and learn to love, not hate. No one will love you if we don't love one another first. No more excuses. No more pity-parties! Stand up for yourself!

Now let's refocus on the list. Let's make the list not only for fun, but for you... and not to impress to anyone else! That DZP was created by you, and needs to be completed by you, for you. Sure you want someone to taste-test your first homemade pie, go ice skating with, and someone to go fly a kite at the beach with... but make sure it's for you and you're happy while completing that task.

Be more confident in yourself. Easier said, yes, but more than needed at this point in your life. Be greedy and self-centered; you're allowed for that every now and again too ya know. Focus on just us and only us and we'll get through this alive... and we will thrive! Remember: a little wise-one once told you "your the most important person in your life and you need to focus on that!"

Now go out there and live woman!!!!
Don't forget about me,
Your Soul

Word of the Day 7/2/2010

Nescience (noun): lack of knowledge or awareness : ignorance

Example Sentence: "[Samuel] Johnson was so vexed by a young clergyman's nescience that he complained, 'His ignorance is so great, I am afraid to show him the bottom of it.'" (Barry Baldwin, Verbatim, June 22, 2003)

Did you know?: Eighteenth-century British poet, essayist, and lexicographer Samuel Johnson once said, "There is nothing so minute or inconsiderable that I would not rather know it than not know it." He probably knew a thing or two about the history of the word "nescience," which evolved from a combination of the Latin prefix "ne-," meaning "not," and "scire," a verb meaning "to know." And he may also have known that "scire" is an ancestor of "science," a word whose original meaning in English was "knowledge."
